The Importance of the Vietnam War

The reason the United States went into this war, was to basically contain Communism and its potential spreading. As China was becoming quick allies with the North Vietnamese, everyone knew something was coming. The North Vietnamese fought us Americans for nearly 16 years, but nothing really happened. It ended nearly in a stalemate. Although we successfully got our troops out of Vietnam in 1975, the spread of Communism was still haunting us because of Soviet and Communist forces in the nearly 45 year Cold War.

When the USSR collapsed in 1991, the Americans had successfully defeated Communism. Even though Communism is spreading in China right now, they are not a major issue. And no one wants to mess with the ever so powerful United States Air Force, the United States Navy, and the United States Army.
